Niels was born in Denmark and after high school and University College in Copenhagen served 18 months in the Danish army. Niels worked for Scandinavian Airline Systems and then decided to emigrate from Denmark in 1961.
He headed straight for British Columbia and had various jobs over the years – always in sales and promotion. In 1992 he acquired Scandinavian Travel Centre in Vancouver, but after a number of years sold the agency. In 2002, Niels joined North South as a senior travel consultant specializing in Scandinavia and European destinations.
Niels lived in Copenhagen and has travelled extensively in Scandinavia and all Western European countries. He has also toured Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey, United States, Mexico, Costa Rica, Hawaiian Islands, Bermuda, Bahamas, Cuba, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Bangladesh and India (three times). His “bucket list” of 50 countries is still short 13 countries!
His interests are travelling, music, choir singing and volunteer work. He has been president of the Danish House Society, Scandinavian Community Centre and presently president of the Oakridge Seniors’ Centre. He supports foster children in Honduras and Bangladesh (visited there in 2009) and volunteers at the “Gathering Place” in Vancouver at special events.
Niels and his wife, Vera, who has a store “Gazebo Gift Co.” in Richmond Centre, have lived in Richmond for 35 years and have a daughter, a son and five grandchildren all living in Vancouver.
Niels’ extensive experience makes him the preferred agent for planning a European holiday touring the Continent by bicycle, car, bus, train or river boat!
Being enthusiastically involved in the Nordic community, Niels is a well-known promoter of European culture and awareness of what the "Old World" has to offer NorthAmerican tourists.
